Coastal Regions

Building garages and homes in coastal regions may be different than inland because of the high wind exposures. The new building codes require special engineering for structures built in certain areas. There are also many areas that allow the "prescriptive measures" (non-engineered) compliance with the code. Where calculations are required, it is necessary for the Professional Engineer (P.E) consultant to review, stamp and sign the plansets and calculations submitted for the building permit application.

Due to state-by-state professional licensing requirements, Behm Design cannot provide additional engineering for beyond "normal", coastal wind requirements. However, customers often do use our stock plans by taking them to a local professional for additional work. If a coastal region does not impose special requiremsnts, such their required parameters match ours, then the plans should work fine for getting the permit. If not, they can be returned as per our guarantee.
